What is the best brand for digital cameras?

Friday Dec 18, 2009

I am looking for a new slim, compact digital camera that I can carry around with me and easily slip into my pocket. I am still undecided about which brand to get. Does anyone have experience with any good slim, compact cameras?

(Money is no issue)

any Canon Ixus with image stabilization would be perfect for you.

I have the 970IS with 5x zoom and love it, the battery life is amazing.

What are some of the smallest digital cameras out there right now?

Wednesday Dec 16, 2009

I resent camera phones for their horrible quality and lack of features. What are some of the smallest digital cameras that I can bring with me everywhere? I am especially looking for one that can take good movies also, but that is not a necesity.

If you value and quality and features, you can’t be looking for a tiny "toy" camera because they won’t do a whole lot better than a camera phone.

You need to decide your priorities – tiny size or quality and usefulness….. never the twain shall meet.

What is your opinion between these two digital cameras?

Sunday Dec 13, 2009

I am looking to buy a GOOD digital camera. I have been researching and have narrowed it down to two choices. The Canon Powershot S3 IS, and the Sony Cyber-shot H5. If you have one of these cameras please give me your opinion on it, the pros and cons. I have read mixed reviews on both cameras.

The best thing to do is try them both out, if possible. See which one is easier to use, in your opinion, and which one is easier to take full advantage of it’s features. Also, determine what your main wants are, and make sure the camera you choose can do them……for example, "burst mode" pictures, and optical zoom.

How come all digital cameras use this system for storing photos?

Friday Dec 11, 2009

How come all digital cameras use this system for storing photos?

Root directory: DCIM (and sometimes MISC)
Inside DCIM: 100xxxxx (Five letter word like NIKON, CANON, PENTX, CASIO….)

What is the "Misc" folder for?

What does "DCIM" stand for?

Why exactly five digits after "100"?

Who set this standard for all digital cameras?

Thanks for answering this dumb question!

DCIM = Digital Camera IMages. This and everything else about the naming convention is a JEITA standard.
What’s that? Oh, JEITA = Japan Electronics and Information Technology industries Association.
For more, this Wiki article has a summary http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design_rule_for_Camera_File_system and if you’re feeling particularly geeky today, they provide a link to the full JEITA specifications.
